Part E: SWOT Strategy Matrix

  1. Prepare a Strengths-Weaknesses-Opportunities-Threat (SWOT) Strategy Matrix. This is a 9 cell diagram that matches and links SWOT. Use the proper notation for each of the cells.
  2. There are 8 steps in creating a SWOT Strategy Matrix:
  • List the firm's key external opportunities.
  • List the firm's key external threats.
  • List the firm's key internal strengths.
  • List the firm's key internal weaknesses.
  • Match internal strengths with external opportunities and record the resultant SO Strategies in the appropriate cell.
  • Match internal weaknesses with external opportunities and record the resultant WO Strategies.
  • Match internal strengths with external threats and record the resultant ST Strategies.
  • Match internal weaknesses with external threats and record the resultant WT Strategies.

Part F: QSPM Matrix

  1. Develop a Quantitative Strategic Planning Matrix (QSPM) to determine relative attractiveness of various strategic alternatives.
  2. Follow these steps:
  • Make a list of the firm's key external opportunities/threats and internal strengths/weaknesses in the left column of the QSPM.
  • Assign weights to each key external and internal factor.
  • Examine the Stage 2 (matching) matrices and identify alternative strategies that the firm should consider. Record these in the top row of the QSPM. Group the strategies into mutually exclusive sets if possible.
  • Determine the Attractiveness Scores (AS).
  • Compute the Total Attractiveness Score.
  • Compute the Sum Total Attractiveness Score.
