On successful completion of this Unit Learners will:

Assessment Criteria

1.1 review systems, policies and procedures for communicating information on health and safety in the health and social care

workplace in accordance with legislative requirements

1.2 assess the responsibilities in a specific health and social care workplace for the management of health and safety in relation to

organisational structures

1.3 analyse health and safety  priorities appropriate for a  specific health and social care  workplace

2.1analyse how information Y/N  from risk assessments informs  care planning for individuals  and organisational decision  making about policies and  procedures

2.2 analyse the impact of one Y/N  aspect of health and safety  policy on health and social care  practice and its  customers Y/N
2.3 discuss how dilemmas  encountered in relation to implementing systems and policies for health, safety and security may be addressed

2.4 analyse the effect of non- Y/N compliance with health and  safety legislation in a health  and social care workplace

Introduction

The concepts of risk, safety, security is all too apparent in the workplace and is an essential consideration for all practitioners in health and social care. As a care worker you need to be aware of the legal requirements such as Health and Safety at Work Acts and associated regulations and codes of practice (RIDDOR, COSHH, Moving and Handling etc) Food Acts, legislation and codes of practice relevant to specific health and social care settings., how you ensure compliance and how systems, policies and procedures are monitored. This assignment requires you to carry out a number of tasks in your role as a health and social care practitioner. You need to present your findings in the form of a report to the care home manger.
