4) Explore the major subcultures in the United States: African-American, Mexican-American, and Native American. Do not rely on your own opinion or experience.

Look these subcultures up in the index of Samovar and Porter and Moran, Harris and Moran. Samovar and Porter use the words African American, and Mexican-American, Latinos. Moran, Harris, and Moran use these terms: Hispanic and African American, Focus on the present, not on the past.
