Case Study #1 - Groysberg, B. and Abbott, S. (2012, June). A.P. Møller - Maersk Group: Evaluating Strategic Talent Management Initiatives. Harvard Business Publishing Brief Cases, Prod. #: 13501-PDF-ENG. Submit a case study report on this case. Your analysis should include cited support from the assigned course readings, plus additional research from other sources that you apply to the case. The main text of the report should be 8 - 10 pages in length.

Headquartered in Copenhagen, Maersk is a global conglomerate with large shipping and oil & gas businesses. At the start of 2012, Maria Pejter, Senior Director in Maersk Group's Human Resources Department, and Bill Allen, Head of Human Resources, sat down to consider some key aspects of Maersk's talent management strategy. Through 2008, Maersk had experienced several years of rapid growth and strong profitability. The global recession in 2008 had negatively impacted both Maersk's top line and its returns; however, operating results had since improved, and Maersk earned record profits in 2010. In recent years, Maersk had seen a rise in its unusually low historic employee turnover rate. And, Maersk had experienced a notable change in its corporate culture as it transitioned from a family-owned Danish shipping company into a global, publicly-traded conglomerate.

The main text of your analysis should include two sections, besides introduction and conclusion:
Section One: A summary of the case and identification of the problem proposed by the case. This should not be more than 3 pages in length.
Section Two: Answer the following questions:
What are the primary issues raised in the Maersk case study?
How should Maersk deal with the rising turnover rate?
What approach should Maersk adopt to address the hiring and integration of experienced personnel.
If you were in charge of improving the talent management issues at Maersk, what changes would you make?
