Problem:

Karen Lavale, Human Resource Manager of the Mika Ltd, recently called a meeting with Vik Shah, the Marketing Manager, in view of illuminating some issues which she deemed significant. It had been observed that during the last year, the rate of absenteeism in marketing department had doubled, and that many employees had resigned. Many of younger workers have been complaining about the lack of direction and support given by Vik. He rarely talked to the marketing staff except to give instructions, and couldn’t understand why they were unhappy when they were being paid a better salary. But, the meeting didn’t prove fruitful, and resulted in Vik Shah’s decision to resign.

Required:

problem 1: Briefly illustrate out two main functions of Human Resource Manager.

problem 2: Determine and illustrate out two key management skills which the Marketing Manager seems to lack.

problem 3: Identify and illustrate out a proper motivational theory, and discuss and illustrate out its benefits for this company.

problem 4: Discuss whether this company might benefit from having an MBO (Management by Objectives) program in place.

problem 5: Following Vik Shah’s resignation, there was a need to recruit a new Marketing Manager. Advise Karen on the best way forward, to make sure that the right candidate is employed. Your answer must include a description of recruitment and selection process.
