Assignment

To prepare for a case report, you should read each case and analyze the data that it presents. Try to use systematic thinking:

1. Outline the major issues presented by the case;
2. Identify the analytical techniques or frameworks appropriate for resolving the problem, and
3. Outline steps to implement a specific course of action that is supported by the analysis.
4. The problem on hand
5. Identifying the important points
6. Recommending a solution approach.

This report will be submitted in Dropbox. Emailed reports will not be accepted.

The name of the case should be on the first page of the text with your names, date, and course number. I will not accept executive summary. Papers should be concise and coherent.

You will submit (individually) a 2-page (double space) analysis of the case, shortly describing:

Case study questions:

1. Qualitatively discuss the advantages and disadvantages of increasing consolidation in China.

2. Quantitatively analyze the first network optimization alternative: opening more primacy DCs in the US. Focus on the alternative where a new primary DC would be opened on the West Coast, and this primary DC would only serve GUS's LA distribution center. Compete the one-year return on investment of this decision.

3. Qualitatively assess the advantages and disadvantages of opening more primary DCs in the US. What components of the cost stricter would increase, and what would decrease?

4. How do the two re-engineering alternatives together impact Grainger's growth plans?
