Assignment - Case Study

Assessment task

The goal of Knowledge Management (KM) is to increase the quality of the contributions people make to their organizations by increasing their motivation: helping people to take responsibility, to collaborate and share what they know and learn, and to effectively challenge, negotiate and learn collectively_ Thus, to assure its maximum effectiveness KM has to consider not only the role of information and communication but also organization, culture and human resources.

"The University presents itself in today's knowledge economy with a dichotomy of priorities, one which aims to provide quality teaching and research activity, and the other, to ensure effective and efficient management and administration within an increasingly competitive market. The values of scholarship remain a very important aspect of its mission: yet, the external environment within which Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) conduct their business today is rapidly changing: forcing HEIs to reflect on how they do 'business' given the external pressures they face" (Cranfield, 2008).

"Amongst those who believe that KM has a lot to offer to Higher Education (HE) is Rowley (Rowley, 2000) who said that we are a long way from a scenario in which each member of the university community has access to the combined knowledge and wisdom of others in the organization, and has access to that knowledge in a form that suits their particular needs" (Stylianou, 2015).
