Assessment Task: Report

Goal: You will expand on the key components identified in the first assignment through a relevant case study and gain a deeper knowledge of using a strategic framework analysis.

Criteria -

  • Demonstrate an awareness of how strategic framework analysis tools can be used to determine the effectiveness of ICT with respect to alignment of the firm's goals and integration of ICT resources
  • Critically review the efficiency and effectiveness of the technologies with respect to the organisation through the lens of each framework.
  • Demonstrate how knowledge processing tools can be used to provide competitive advantage to the case study firm.

Executive Summary: (1 page)

1. Background.  You must be brief and to the point (about 1 page). Use your own words - you mustn't just reproduce the case here. Talk about how the classic themes fit your case (a reiteration from assignment 1).  You may use another case if you wish but you will have to re-identify the classic themes.

2. Extent of Alignment - fill in the four matrices provided (SWOT, Balanced Scorecard, Porters five forces and work centred analysis) in an appendix (Appendix A) (this is not included in the word count)

3. Assessment of efficiency and effectiveness - Based on your analysis that you have recorded in Appendix A, select two of the most relevant framework analysis and provide an assessment of the efficiency and effectiveness of the alignment between your case strategies/goals and its ICT.  Your assessment must be supported by concepts and other material from the literature (text, readings, etc.).*

4. Recommendations.  Provide recommendations on how your case can better align its use of ICT with the current/proposed business goals/strategies of the organisation with an emphasis on knowledge processing tools. Again, these must be appropriately supported by the literature. Your choice of recommendations demonstrates your understanding of the problems/opportunities.  You must convince management to adopt your recommendations (i.e. 'sell' them to management).

5. Implementation Plan.  Your plan for implementing each of your recommendations should include activities and timelines for each recommendation (in a Gantt Chart), and must be plausible. Again, you must convince management to adopt your implementation plan (i.e. 'sell' it to them).

6. References.  At the end of your report, you must provide a list of all cited references (using correct Harvard referencing style) (at least 5).

7. Presentation.  Grammar, punctuation, expression and presentation must be of a high standard.
