Assessment - Transportation in the supply chain

For this assessment, you need to describe the characteristics and elements of transportation in the supply chain and explain trade-off decisions and consequences.

You are to answer the following questions:

1. Describe the full-range of potential modes of transportation for freighting goods and critically evaluate their advantages and disadvantages in relation to: different types of freight; the quantity of freight; the required speed of delivery; and associated costs (financial, social, environmental), with examples;

2. Explain the point at which ownership is transferred during a freighting operation and who is responsible for ensuring the freight arrives on time, in full, and error free (refer Incoterms 2010); and

3. In terms of road and rail transport within New Zealand, identify what standards are applied to containers and pallets and explain why such standards are important, with justification.

The total submission should comprise 1500 words (+/-10%, not including appendices, citations and references). You must make reference to any models, frameworks, concepts, and terminology that you have encountered in class, in your textbook, or sourced elsewhere.
