APPLE IN THE NEWS- GLOBAL MARKETING, ENCRYPTION AND CYBER SECURITY

The government asked a court to order Apple to create a unique version of iOS that would bypass security protections on the iPhone Lock screen. Apple strongly objects to this order. The government says Apple's objection appears to be based on concern for its business model and global marketing strategy. Some analysts remark - "What will drive this debate is the global market,"

  • How is (or is) Apple's objection related to its global marketing strategy? Should Apple unlock the phone? Why/Why not? What is your opinion? Lay down both sides of the debate, and concisely argue your viewpoint.
  • From a marketing strategy point of view, why is Apple so successful in China and other countries? Reflect on the level of standardization versus local adaptation, key elements of its international product and branding strategy.
