For this assignment, you will examine one issue a bit more in depth. You will choose one of the topics covered in the last part of the class (Women and Work, Domestic Violence, or Rape).

You are to carefully study ONE of the pages from Penguin Atlas of Women in the World (posted on blackboard according to topic) and elaborate on the summary Joan Seager provides for each topic. You are, in essence, proving her thesis with the factual material you find. You will need to provide at least three different, cited sources other than the particular pages you are assigned. These could be from outside research, from class texts, from lecture, from class films or speakers, etc. If you are to use the internet for your research, wikipedia does not count. You are only allowed to use ONE internet website for research.

First look over your assigned page carefully to get a sense of the issue and its geographical context. Study all the graphs and charts carefully to understand incidence, changes, populations, comparisons etc.

Read the summary on the left side of the page and make sure you understand the issue and its implications for women worldwide (some issues are of more concern in certain areas of the world but there may be "traces" of the issue in other places).

In 3-5 pages you are to prepare an expanded overview of the topic integrating all the information you can find in the Atlas and the supporting information that you draw from other sources. In other words, you are to "prove" the summary by referring to the maps, graphs, and charts provided in the Atlas and giving the specific exs provided to elaborate on the overview that Seager supplies.
Use at least 3 sources (following instructions above) either outside or from the class readings to make the connections from the Atlas.
