Write an argument to persuade others that it is possible to have an idea which did not in some way originate in experience. For example, philosopher, David Hume said that all knowledge originates in sense experience. Immanuel Kant, however believed that certain types of knowledge were derived apart from sense experience, such as the idea of quantity, quality, relation and modality. Kant thought that the mind “brings” something to the things it experiences. The idea of causal connection (necessary) was one such idea already present in the human mind (22 points). This is your chance to practice writing an argument such as the Project. I started the argument, below, now you develop the argument and write a conclusion.
• Write the title: “Knowledge gained apart from Sense Experience”
• Explain the question: Can we have knowledge apart from sense experience?
• Make a definite claim or proposal
• Develop your arguments/premises
• Write the conclusion
