INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Read Chapter 2: "Critical Reading and Critique" (Behrens & Rosen, 2016, pp. 51-77), paying particular attention to the section called "How to Write Critiques" (pp. 68-71).
2. Read the textbook's essay byGregory Rodriguez entitled "Truth is in the Ear of the Beholder"(pp. 484-485)) and the essay by Cliff Oxford entitled "High Performance Happy" (pp. 562-565). Choose ONE of these essays to be the subject of your critique. Print off the essay and mark it up.
3. Review "Guidelines for Writing Critiques" (p. 68).
4. Write a 600-word critique of your chosen essay (Rodriguezor Oxford). Use the steps outlined in chapter two of Behrens & Rosen, and remember also the following key points:
Checklist:
a. Your work should have five sections: introduction, summary, assessment, response, and conclusion (which means a minimum of five paragraphs).
b. The summary section should pay attention to the qualities reviewed in chapter one.
c. The assessment section may discuss logical fallacies (only if appropriate).
d. The response section should show the extent to which you agree or disagree with the author, but your must remain objective and fair (avoid using emotionally charged or sarcastic language).
e. The response section requires support from details drawn from personal experience and/or from other readings in Chapters 13 or 14 of Behrens & Rosen (be sure to introduce details clearly with some sort of context, and give proper APA citation). No outside research is required for this assignment.
f. Keep quotations to an absolute minimum and quote key concepts only; use your own language for at least 90% of the paper.
g. Include APA in-text citations that correspond to Reference-list entries at the end of the critique for the article you discuss and any other source(s) you choose to include.
h. Double-space, use 11- or 12-point font, and use standard 1" margins.
i. Include a word count.
j. Submit the critique AND the marked-up copy of the essay you've critiqued
