Web Usability Evaluation - Part 1

Use Jacob Nielsen's first five usability heuristics to perform a heuristic evaluation of a handheld device or Web site of your choosing. Write five pages in which you describe how each heuristic interacts with the design approaches used on your chosen interface.

The simplicity of heuristic evaluation is beneficial at the early stages of design. This usability inspection method does not require user testing, which can be burdensome due to the need for users, a place to test them, and a payment for their time. Most heuristic evaluations can be accomplished in a matter of days. The time required varies with the size of the artifact, its complexity, the purpose of the review, the nature of the usability issues that arise in the review, and the competence of the reviewers. Using heuristic evaluation prior to user testing will reduce the number and severity of design errors discovered by users.

Utilizing Jacob Nielsen's first five usability heuristics, write a five-page evaluation of a handheld device or Web site of your choosing. Describe how each heuristic interacts with the design approaches used on your chosen interface. Include a section for each of the following heuristics:

-Visibility of system status.
-Match between system and the real world.
-User control and freedom.
-Consistency and standards.
-Error prevention.

Additional Requirements

-Include a title page and a references page.
-Include an introductory paragraph and a concluding paragraph.
-Include a minimum of three research resources.
-Be sure to follow APA guidelines for style and formatting.
-Your finished assessment should be five pages in length, excluding the title page and references page
