This part of Project is an essay on the topic: Ethics in Data Science. What are the ethical challenges in data science today and how can a SMU education in data science help address those challenges?

Your essay must include summaries of the following:

or Cathy O'Neil's TED talk both

b) Either Zeynep Tufekci's TED talk or "Should data scientists adhere to a Hippocratic oath?" by Tom Simonite in Wired

c) Either "This is so much bigger than Facebook" by Ethan Zuckerman in The Atlantic or "Computer science faces an ethics crisis.

The Facebook scandal proves it" by Yonatan Zunger in The Boston Globe or both

2) What happened to Governor Weld of Massachusetts and his medical records in the mid-1990s? How could people's medical records be used unethically?

3) What is the Facebook scandal? Do you think the scandal is justified or overblown, i.e., having Facebook data used without our knowledge is something we have to be willing to put up with in order to use Facebook?

4) Do you think ethics should be enforced in data science? If so, how?

5) How can a SMU education in analytics and data science help you use your data science knowledge ethically?

Your essay must be at least 1,500 words in Times New Roman 12pt double-spaced with 1-inch margin (about 6 pages). It must look professional and include, in this order:

- a cover page with SMU logo, title, name of student
- all pages numbered after cover page
- executive summary
- table of contents
- sections with headers, subsections with headers for each of the important ideas.
