The triple constraints for creating cost estimates include resources, time and money. What cost estimation approaches provide consistent triangulation of triple constraints for creating accurate estimates? Should different approaches be used for different types of projects?

For this Assignment, you will practice using WBS to create a cost estimate and model for building a new, state-of-the-art multimedia classroom for your organisation. The timeline for this project is six months.

To complete this Assignment: Your cost estimate and model for building a new, state-of-the-art multimedia classroom should include:

.20 high-end personal computers with appropriate software for your organisation

.A network server

.Internet access for all machines

.An instructor station

.A projection system Include personnel costs associated with the project management for this project.

Document the assumptions you made in preparing the estimate.

Provide explanations for key numbers. For all Assignments: Your document should have 750-1,000 words (not including the list of works cited), but it is the quality of the answer that matters, not the number of words.

Cite and reference all sources using the Harvard Liverpool Referencing System. By Day 7, upload your document using the Turnitin submission link for this Assignment.

Your group submitted Group Project 1: Goals and Objectives. Using this section as a guide, your next submission for the Project Plan Outline is Project Estimates.

Portion of the Project Plan Outline.

The purpose for this Group Project 2: Project Estimates is to analyse and demonstrate how cost estimates are created, not to train you on a particular toolset.

You will study and discuss, you will need to create a 'rough draft' WBS so that you might develop your cost estimate for your Project Plan Outline.

Note: Your group will continually revise the Project Plan Outline draft as you receive feedback from your Instructor. Please make any required changes to the earlier sections of your project plan and note the revision history.

To prepare for this Group Project: Download a copy of COCOMO II for your operating system from http://csse.usc.edu/csse/research/COCOMOII/cocomo_downloads.htm and review the manual.

If you have trouble, installing COCOMO on a different computer seems to do the trick. If COCOMO continues not to work, then you should try the Java-enabled Web-based version on the COCOMO Web site: http://sunset.usc.edu/research/COCOMOII/

To complete this Group Project 2: Project Estimates (due in Week 4 of this Module): Two techniques will be used, and the results will be triangulated. One of the two techniques must be COCOMO II.

The other technique must be process-based. When using COCOMO, please use the Early Design defaults. You do not need to change any parameters. It is also suggested that you use lines of code (SLOC) instead of function points when entering each module (i.e. a module is a program function, which is composed of programming code, such as development of the GUI, development of the reporting process etc.).

If you do not have experience estimating lines of code, you might need to develop a standard number of lines of code for a small module (e.g., 2,000 lines), for a mid-size module and for a large module and then try to figure out whether the module you are entering into COCOMO is small, medium or large. Make sure you document your standards and assumptions in the project plan. Your document length should be 750-1,000 words. Embed everything in one document, if possible. You can do this by using screenshots of the COCOMO estimate.

Group Project 2:

Project Estimates This section presents a set of estimates for the completion of the project, including people, hardware and software. 1.People costs

1.Historical or researched data used for estimates (Requires annotation listing where you got this information)

2.Salary requirements

2.Equipment costs (Requires costs for all hardware and software used. It is assumed that all hardware and software will be new.)

1.Hardware

2.Software

3.Estimation techniques and results

1.COCOMO

2.Process-based

3.Triangulation results
