The purpose of this assessment is to identify the claim of a visual argument.

Refer to the following images that are attached and based on your understanding of the images, match each image with one of the claim categories given below. Provide an appropriate rationale for your selection.

Claim categories:

• This visual primarily establishes fact.
What is the fact? How convinced are you by this image?

•  This visual shows cause and effect.
What is the cause? What is the effect? Do you accept the cause-effect relationship depicted here?
Why or why not?

•  This visual is mainly about establishing value.
What is being evaluated? Is the value assigned to it positive or negative? Do you agree or disagree?
Why or why not?

•  This visual provides a possible solution for a problem.
What is the problem, and what is the solution?

Based on your responses, discuss which visual was easy to match with its correct claim category and which visual was difficult to match with its correct claim category. Respond to two of your peers who you think have matched the visuals with their claim category  incorrectly and discuss why you think so.

Participation Requirements:
Respond to at least two of your classmates. When responding:
•  Provide complete, well-thought-out responses.

•  Ask questions, share experiences, challenge ideas, and help your peers expand their responses.

•  Your responses must show how you have learned more about a concept or a response from another student. This can be done in a number of different ways. The following are examples of posts that show learning and growth throughout the discussion:
o Share what resources you checked in an attempt to clarify your doubts regarding the topic.
o Ask one to two new questions related to the discussion topic to your instructor or your peers.
o Share why you chose to comment on particular answers posted on the forum. Did you learn anything new from the answers of your peers?
o Did you find any peer's answer contradictory to your understanding of the topic? What new questions does it bring to your mind about the topic?
o Share one misconception that you had before you participated in this discussion forum
o What specific content idea you liked from the book helped you answer this discussion question?
o Were there any other resources that explained the concept better than the book? How?

Note: One-sentence answers will not be sufficient. If your answer is "I agree" or "I disagree," explain why you agree or disagree. Remember that a discussion is an opportunity to interact with your fellow classmates and to gain from sharing critical and analytical thinking. Observe discussion etiquette: Be respectful, kind, and nonjudgmental of your classmates.
