STRATEGIC ANALYSIS PROJECT

Students will submit a written comprehensive strategic analysis of a Fortune 500 firm. The focus of the analysis should be on the current environment, issues the company is currently facing and recommendations to address the issues.

Topic: I want to do with FedEx

Pages: 35 - 40 pages.

From the analysis, each student will present only the strategic recommendations for "CEO" evaluation. The document should, at least, cover the following information:

1. Cover Page - Should contain name of the company, name of the author, name of the class, semester.

2. Table of Contents

3. Introduction - General information about the company including its history

4. Strategy formulation

- Current mission, objective, and strategies (that you will identify from your research)

- Industry Analysis (of the industry which your company represents, for example, if you are analyzing Ford Motors, the industry analysis willfocus on the auto industry)

- General Outlook (of the industry, not your company or other individual companies in the industry)

- International Outlook (of the industry, not your companyor other individual companies in the industry)

- External Audit (forces that affect your industry, not your individual company)

- Economic Forces (e.g., inflation, interest rates, unemployment, etc.)

- Competitive Forces

- Regulatory Environment

- Technological Forces

- Sociocultural Forces (if applicable)

- Summary of Opportunities and Threats (in this section you will discuss the external forces that affect your industry and then at the end in summary come up with a list of at least 5 opportunities and 5 threats that affect all companies in your industry)

- Internal Audit (internal strengths and weaknesses of your own company)

- Management
- Personnel
- Organizational Structure
- Organizational Culture
- Marketing
- Operations
- Technology and R&D
- Innovations
- Accounting and Finance (Discussion of the financial ratio analysis)

- Summary of Strengths and Weaknesses (in this section you will discuss the internal forces that affect your company and then at the end in summary come up with a list of at least 5 strengths and 5 weaknesses that affect your company)

- Strategic Analysis - Discussion of the SWOT Analysis. The actual matrix and a discussion of the SWOT analysis including the strategies and their logic should be discussed in the paper.

- Strategic Choice - Following the discussion of the strategies, select two strategies as the ones that you would implement if you were the top management of the company.

5. Strategic Implementation - Discussion of the resources that the company would need to implement the top two strategies that you suggested in the previous section.

6. Strategy Evaluation - How will you measure strategic performance? In other words, how will you know if your strategy worked? Some examples of evaluations measures are sales, net income, return on assets, return on equity, market share increases, etc.
