Robotics Research Project

Write a paper on a topic of your choice in the area of robotics. Find a topic where robotics technology has developed in a new area within the last five years, or a current research project still in development which is hoped to be ready in the near future.

Requirements

You may choose to write your paper alone, or with one or two classmates. The length of your paper and number of required information sources will depend on how many people collaborate:

Formatting

Your paper should be formatted using 12pt text in a proportional-spaced font (i.e., not Courier), 1 inch margins, double spaced lines, no extra blank lines between paragraphs. You should include photos or illustrations, but they do not count toward your page limit. Your reference list should be on a separate page and does not count toward your page limit.

Sources

At least two of your sources must be available in print, such as a newspaper article, academic journal, or conference. The Pace library has great access to online databases such as the ACM Digital Library, the IEEE Digital Library, and the full archives of the New York Times. Make sure you properly cite all the works you reference and use quotes where appropriate! All of your listed sources must be quoted or at least directly referenced within the paper. Use MLA style for citations. (The paper's formatting does not need to follow MLA style, just the citations and reference list.) If you are familiar with another popular citation style, you can use it instead Mutliple articles from the same source (newspaper, web site, etc.) can be used but don't count toward the source total.

Plagiarism will result in a grade of zero.

Ideas

You must choose a specific topic for your research. Robotics is used in so many areas that you are bound to find a specific area of interest to you. Here are a few general areas you might look into but you are not limited to these:

entertainment or education

assisting the elderly or handicapped

military applications

working in hazardous areas and/or space

medical applications
