Research Project - Information Security Management

Background: Information Security is one of the most challenging tasks in creating and maintaining an information system. Chapter 12 introduces some of the more common problems and ways to counter them. Figure 12-5 on page 315 shows the most common categories of attacks. In the last two months there have been news stories about several large scale attacks on MIS systems in some very large companies. Choose one of these research.

Requirements: You will write a 2-3 page research paper on a large scale attack on an information system occurring in the time period between June 2014 and April of 2015. Using reliable online sources (large newspapers, respected magazines, journals) find 2-3 articles that talk about this issue. Summarize the information you found in these articles. Use the material in your textbook as well to identify what type of a treat it was (see chart on page 315). At the end of your research paper write 1-2 paragraphs suggesting some safeguards that individuals and companies can follow that will help to reduce, if not eliminate, the likelihood that they are exposed to this threat.
