Request to conduct research on establishing and implementing safety guidelines for hazardous materials.

INTRODUCTION:

I am writing to request your permission to conduct research on establishing a policy that will implement safety guidelines and procedures for hazardous materials in our organization.Currently, the process in place for safely handling hazardous materials needs to be drastically improved. This is due to the recent Unit Compliance Inspection (UCI) where our organization received an "UNSATISFACTORY" rating for the hazardous material handling procedures. By improving these procedures this would increase the overall safety for the entire organization.

CHALLENGE:

Our organization currently employs seventy-five personnel, of that twenty-five are military and the other fifty personnel are civilians. I would like to "bridge the gap" between the military and the civilian personnel on hazardous materials procedures. All of the military are properly trained in handling hazardous materials. Only fifty percent of the civilian workforce is trained in hazardous material handling. Knowing and complying with all of the hazardous procedures and policies will help our organization be more effective along with being safe. It's very important for everyone to know the procedures for handling hazardous materials.
