Report Format:

The assignment is to be written in the format of a Management Report.

You must discuss all of the elements of the assignment brief in the main body of your report with supporting information provided in the appendices. The appendices must be given a number and cited within the text in order of their relevance. - Words 4,000.

Your report should apply theory, models and frameworks drawn from the taught elements of the module. It should also include your own research from relevant sources. You can use any appropriate tables, flow charts, charts, graphics, diagrams, figures etc., to support your analysis and evaluation which are NOT part of the word count. However, you MUST ensure to provide relevant and appropriate discussion, analysis and evaluation in the body of the report.

Assignment Brief - PROJECT STRATEGY, LEADERSHIP AND GOVERNANCE:

You are required to prepare a report that critically evaluates and appraises the following in the context of a report for a group of newly elected Members of the Scottish Parliament (MSP's):

- The need for organizational strategy to be an integral part of project management.
- The role of leadership and governance in facilitating successful projects.
- The need for program and portfolio management; with consideration given to associated tools and processes.
- The value of the PMO; with attention given to options for PMO forms.

Report Audience (MSP's):
You work at the Scottish Parliament as a project management professional. You liaise with politicians reporting on public funded projects. There have been a number of newly elected MSP's with varying backgrounds and knowledge of Project Management as a discipline. You and your team have been asked to prepare a number of reports to educate the newly elected politicians in the area of project management. You have been asked to prepare a report that will educate the MSP's in the area of Project Strategy, Leadership and Governance. This report will allow the MSP's to have an understanding of the role of Strategy, Leadership and Governance in delivering successful projects in the public sector and the private sector. Be mindful not to merely describe - this should be a critical evaluation to fully educate the audience.

General Guidance:

- AVOID generalisation and descriptive statements or mere quotations from references/academic source. It is synthesis, critical evaluation and logical reasoning using appropriate academic and peer reviewed research publications that we want for this report and the presentation. Quality and clarity are important.

- You MUST demonstrate your ability to build arguments systematically with logical reasoning and critical evaluation. This is MSc level submission which demands significant evidence of synthesis and critical evaluation with specific project and project management based context and examples must be demonstrated. All arguments, logical reasoning and evaluation must be supported by references from credible/valid/authoritative academic/professional source, e.g., books, e-books, journals (e.g., International Journal of Project Management), white papers, professional institutions magazines/articles, e.g., PMI (Project Management Journal) and APM (Project Magazine) publications, case studies and conference proceedings
