Companies can be fatally damaged if they do not and anticipate and respond to unplanned events (Schermerhorn & Uhl-Bien, 2011). Leaders need to plan for the unexpected.

The best case of controlling a crisis and maintaining the trust of the public was back in 1982 when Johnson & Johnson immediately and effectively handled the incident of the cyanide-laced Tylenol capsules.
