Ask Management Information System Expert

Please use 250 words or more per question.

Question 1:

The requirements specified for a system have an important role in each of the 5 phases of the SDLC. Think creatively and discuss their role in each of the 5 SDLC phases. In which phase do you think the requirements play the most important part? Why?

Question 2:

Please respond to at least one of the following:

1. Compare and contrast the Context Diagram and the Use Case Diagram.

2. Compare and contrast the three process models: structured English, Decision Table and Decision Tree.

Question 3:

One of the most important skills of a systems analyst is designing effective user interfaces. There are several "rules" that one must follow, pertaining to user interface design:

The user interface should:

1. Be easy to learn and use

2. Enhance user productivity

3. Provide users with help and feedback

4. Have an attractive layout and design

5. Focus on screens dealing with data entry

6. Reduce or minimize input volume

7. Use validation rules

8. Provide useful and understandable information/feedback to the user

The Assignment.

1. Assess each of these rule-areas and, based on an experience YOU have had with an Information System, or Website, select one of the rules that YOU feel could be implemented to enhance the "user experience" of that Website or information system.

2. Write a brief synopsis of the system or Website you experience(d), and explain why you believe this rule would improve it. Defend your reasoning from a professional user, or systems analyst perspective.

3. Respond to fellow students who reply to your post.

Question 4:

Review this week's reading A Technique for Architecture and Design and select one of the points the author discusses and explain, in your own words, why it is important and relevant to translating the design specifications into the physical architecture. Provide an example of that would illustrate or justify your position.

Post-Implementation Evaluations can prove to be quite an effective tool, in determining if the deployed system fulfills the needs (requirements) that were anticipated by the user community. In addition, the evaluation verifies whether (or not) the system produces the anticipated benefits. Using the requirements that were established, the evaluation includes feedback in the following areas:

1. Accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of the IS output

2. User satisfaction

3. System reliability and maintainability

4. Adequacy of system controls and security measures

5. Hardware efficiency and platform performance

6. Performance of the IT team (analysis, engineering, programmers, etc.)

7. Completeness and quality of documentation

8. Quality and effectiveness of training

9. Accuracy of cost-benefit estimates

10. Accuracy of development and implementation schedules

Your Assignment (as a response to this topic): Select three (3) of the evaluation areas listed, and, in your own words, explain why this information would serve as important feedback to the systems analyst, as well as the project manager and his or her support staff. Be concise in your response; give examples, and cite your resources.

Question 5:

Maintenance Tasks - Operational and Maintenance (O&M) costs make up a large portion of the total cost of ownership (TCO), regardless of system "size".

It is said that O&M costs make up the lion's share of cost throughout the system's life cycle, and ongoing expenses can determine the economic lifespan of a system. Maintenance tasks can be broken down into four (4) categories:

1. Corrective Maintenance

2. Adaptive Maintenance

3. Perfective Maintenance

4. Preventive Maintenance

The process of "racking & stacking" these maintenance tasks is no small feat; especially for a large system. This is why most firms implement a Change Control Board (CCB; or, you may have heard it referred to as a Configuration Control Board-they are synonymous in nature).

Even though the lead systems analyst is typically on this board, they do not decide the priority of these maintenance tasks-however, it is imperative that they understand the nature of each maintenance category.

For this discussion.....

1. Properly describe each of the maintenance categories

2. Give a specific example of each maintenance category, either using the class case study or a system that you are familiar with, and

3. Assign each example a specific priority (level 3 being the lowest; level 1 being the highest), based on your knowledge of the system-explain in detail "why" you would give it that specific priority.
