Application Assignment.

We all have different communication styles and skills. What kind of Communication do you think you are? This week, you will have the opportunity to examine and evaluate your own communication and listening styles, dispositions, and skills. Your Application will have four parts.

Part 1: Complete the three assessments listed below: Then summarize what you learned about yourself based on the results link to the tests below. Communication Anxiety Inventory, Verbal Aggressiveness Scale, Listening Styles Profile

Part 2: Choose two people (friends, family, colleagues, and so on) to evaluate you using the same measures. They might perceive you differently than you perceive yourself. Note that it might be helpful to choose two people from different areas of your life, such as one family member and one colleagues. Then summarize how these two people evaluated you. Link to the tests below and print them out: Communication Anxiety Inventory, Verbal Aggressiveness Scale, Learning Styles Profile.

Part 3: Describe how people evaluated you compared yourself. What did you learn from these evaluations? What do they say about the kind of communicator you are? How do their perceptions of you as a communicator differ from what you perceive yourself to be?

Part 4: Use the information gained from the results of these assessments to develop three communication goals for how you can improve your communication skills both personally and within the early childhood field as you interact with young children and their families, colleagues, and various community and government organizations and agencies.
