Part A -

Case Study - You are going to take a trip to New York City for two weeks. You have a budget of US$7,000. Create a project plan for the journey.

For example, the list of tasks (work packages) might include such things as research flights and book flights. The key to building the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), which is the basis of a project plan, is to get enough detail to manage the activities, but not so much as to require excessive time in measuring the actual. Download the WBS Template and use it for Unit 3 & 4 DQ's.

Q1 - Build a WBS for the case study. Download the template and case study from the course page. Build a list of activities (work packages in the PMBOK), just do the activity descriptions for this assignment. Use verbs and nouns like "Design Building" or "Write Code" when describing activities. You need enough detail to manage the project, but not too much. Save this as we will use it for the next few activities.

Q2 - Estimate for all the WBS work packages. Use the WBS from Unit 3-1. Fill in all of the columns except for Actual, Deviation, and the risk columns to the far right. Save this as we will use it for the next few activities.

Part B -

Q1 - Perform a risk assessment for the case study project. Use the WBS from Part A. Fill in all of the columns in the Risk section of the template. Save this as well use it for the next activity.

Q2 - Build a schedule. Use the WBS from Unit 4-2. Number each work package starting with 1. Then download the schedule template and arrange activities in the order that they will be performed. For example, if you are to put on shoes, put on sock, and put on pants, the sequence would be put on socks, put on pants, put on shoes.

Part C -

Q1 - Presenting the plan. You will present plan to the sponsor. Build a series of PowerPoint Slide. One slide for the purpose of the project, one for WBS, one for estimate, one for risk, one for schedule. You will be graded on your ability to summarize the details, your ability to make the PowerPoint Slides compelling for stakeholders. You may sue the Presentation PPT for ideas on how to construct a powerful presentation. For each slide, make sure to have summary content in the slides and details in the notes section of the slide with the clear research support.
