Ask Project Management Expert

Part 1

This part of the paper requires you to apply your understanding of project management as a whole through the following scenario.

Scenario

Assume you've started a small, one-person project management consulting firm. Your first two clients asked you similar but different questions. These two clients are friends with each other who want to see how you answer both of their questions. To this end, these clients requested-and you agreed-that you answer their questions by comparing and contrasting your recommendations for using project management in response to the following 2 questions.

Client # 1 (Jack): Do I need to bother with project management if I'm only going to build a single birdhouse to put in my backyard?

Client # 2 (Diane): Do I need to bother with project management if I'm only setting up an additional, new production line for a product we already produce?

Since your clients are busy, they asked-and you, once again, agreed-that your response not exceed 3 double-spaced pages which include any models, diagrams, and/or tables using a 12-point font and finch margins.

Instructions

1. First, review the rubric for this part of the exam which is attached with the exam as well as included as part of the assignment for this part of the exam.

2. Second, answer your clients' question in the manner indicated in the above scenario.

3. Last, post your material using the appropriate link in Blackboard.

Part 2

A third client came to your consulting firm with a different request. Ms. Prynne's company charged her with determining the length of time a new project will take to complete and the "critical path" (which Ms. Prynne does not know what means) the project manager (aka Ms. Prynne) should watch carefully during the execution of the project.

Background

Ms. Prynne was promoted to be the project manager for a project that updates the baggage control system at the local airport. At the present time, Ms. Prynne is interested in learning more about project management and wants to learn the needed skills to properly conduct a time analysis. To this end, Ms. Prynne asked that you complete an AON diagram and accompanying data table which she will study and ask any questions necessary for clarification. The work package predecessors and duration estimates (given in weeks) as listed below are all the details Ms. Prynne has at the moment. [NOTE: This table is duplicated in the MS Excel spreadsheet which accompanies this exam.]
