Part 1

Choose 2 of the following industries and discuss current applications and changes that are likely to take place in the next 5 to 10 years. Use the final column to outline the skillsets that are necessary to be a successful part of that change.

Use the textbook, research and your own knowledge and creativity to suggest changes that are possible in the industries you have chosen. Chapter 1 outlines skillsets that are necessary to be successful.

In addition to your two areas, choose one additional industry sector of your choice, and discuss the possible future technological changes.

Part 2

The Zulily Case on Pages 33 - 35 of your textbook provides information about using information systems in support of a company's business model to gain a competitive advantage.

It is an important case as we begin studying Management of Information Systems, because this gives us our first look at several important concepts.

The case requires us to understand the difference between data and information. It also begins to develop our understanding of the importance of information system from a corporate strategic perspective.

Read the Zulily case and answer questions 1-11; 1-12; and 1-13. Also answer the following questions:

How would you define the terms data and information based on the Zulily case?

How is Zulily using information systems to help gain a competitive advantage?

Part 3

After reading chapter 1 and reviewing the chapter powerpoints, you should have an understanding of the 5 component model (hardware, software, data, procedures, and people). Pick a system you are familiar with, and outline each of the components in relationship to that system. You are also required to comment on one other student's system by providing feedback on their application of the 5 component model.
