Part 2-

Systems Implementation

Systems Implementation Plan

You have completed an initial Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) outlining the major elements of the implementation phase of the project. It is now time to build on this WBS and to develop a Systems Implementation Plan.

Case Study Background

Your specific area of responsibility is on the development, deployment and implementation of the systems for the Safe-T-Kids project. You are required to provide advice and a report outlining the direction and requirements for that part of the project.

In broad terms the project will involve:

- The installation of a high capacity file server to be used as a centralised storage and processing centre for administrative work.

- The installation of PC's and peripheral devices in various locations throughout the administration offices and management offices to provide for rapid access to data and the entry of data.

- The development of software comprising three parts: the first part a financial system automating the payroll and accounting departments, the second part a client-server child record system, and the third a separate admissions system for the new Safe-T-Games centre. All of the software will be developed from existing software modules and will be modified to match the requirements of Safe-T-Kids.

- The installation of PC's and peripheral devices in one childcare centre.

- The implementation of the system in the central office and a child care centre.

- The implementation of the system in the central office, all the child care centres, and the new Safe-T-Games centre.

Requirements

You are required to prepare a detailed Systems Implementation Plan. To ensure that the document is consistent you are to use the template provided. Carefully read through the template to ensure that you know exactly what is required for each section. If there are any queries make sure to ask for clarification.

Read through the Safe-T-Kids project details. Your WBS from your first submission will assist you to identify key areas within the implementation.

For each section of the plan replace the blue instructions with details specific to the Safe-T-Kids project.

This is an iterative process. You will find that you will need to return to each section from time to time to add/edit details.

A number of appendices have been added to the template. You may find it necessary to add additional ones as you work your way through the case study. For example you might find it appropriate to add a risk assessment and management strategy.

Note you will be required to present your plan in a presentation at the end of the semester.
