A. Over the last several years, situations in my household were quite difficult. Animosity between my mother and my sibling were a hallmark of this difficult time, and the constant yelling and fighting made it difficult for me to focus on my school studies and life in general. Every day seemingly, I had to lock myself away in my bedroom and struggle to remain calm and focused on my studies, despite the tumult that existed downstairs. My bedroom was my only escape because sadly, throughout my high school career, I made some terrible “friends” who berated me with rude comments and banter regarding my ethnicity and my cultural backgrounds. From this harassment, I was impacted deeply; I soon lost interest in school and found myself in a world of gloom. In the classroom, I would be made fun of in most of my classes and became a victim of bullying. As most students who face my situation unfortunately do, I remained quiet. I really didn’t bother to tell anyone about my situation, and feared I would lose what little friends I had for being a “snitch.” However, looking back at the situation now, I realize that their ignorance only strengthened me, and from the adversity I faced, made me a more strong willed person overall. Today, I live in the present; all the events that folded during my high school years are well behind me. Whatever I have done in the past is not a reflection of my possibilities; it’s a reflection of my consciousness.
B. At the beginning of my junior year in high school, I decided to major in Biomedical Engineering. I chose this major because when I started PSEO, I wanted to become accustomed to the natural sciences that exist all around us in our everyday lives. Ultimately, I chose Biomedical Engineering as my major because I truly felt it embodied all the natural sciences, bringing courses like Biology, Chemistry and Physics into one union. The aforementioned courses are those at which I excel and going forward I wish to take my abilities to succeed in those disciplines, to innovate and contribute my ideas to the field of Biomedical Engineering because the future is shaped the way I want it, and it is mine for the taking.
C. Along with this appeal, I have attached certificates, which I have earned along my academic journey, as well as updated transcripts. Currently I’m progressing in Calculus IV and Organic Chemistry II. I have finished Physics with Calculus I & II. The College of Science & Engineering is my college of interest because I’m interested in figuring out how the technology we use every day operates and its impact in health sciences. I have truly worked with all of my heart to improve myself—to become a better person. I’m ecstatic that I am on the road to becoming an asset for my society rather than a liability. I would be grateful to get a chance and more so, to take advantage of an opportunity to be accepted into the College of Science & Engineering.
