While deciding the sequence of operations the plant layout is to be taken into consideration. The sequence of operations should  be such  that  there is least  material  handling,  and smooth  flow of  parts from  one operations to the next without much  delay.  To achieve these machines may be arranged according to the sequence of operations so that successive operations are carried out on adjacent machines to minimize the delay and the handling cost.
