Evaluation of Carson’s Argument

“Every pregnant woman in the United States is exposed to many and varied environment chemicals” (Sutton). According to “The Obligation to Endure,” Rachel Carson argues that man has altered nature by contaminating the environment and harming humans with dangerous and lethal materials (Carson). She explains how chemicals enter the soil, air, water, and humans, and man has rapidly altered the environment in the last 50 years (Carson). Actually, air pollution causes different kinds of environmental effects which include natural radiation, Industrial radiation, and other new synthetic chemicals. All these materials have a harmful effect on humans’ health, plants, animals, and other organisms. Chemicals react with air or precipitate on the soil or surface as venomous contaminations, and then cause diseases or death in many ways. In comparison with some others believe that chemical synthetic one of the attributes of development and the advancement of science technology. However, some synthetic chemicals are environmentally persistent. To determine both side of this argument, Carson claims that chemicals have harmful effects on nature by toxic pollution; it should be control or stopped. But it is also within acquisition significant technology to alter the world.

One of Carson’s claims is that pesticides caused environment pollution. There are many types of pesticide are using successfully to control a lot of diseases, such as malaria and typhus. These pesticides as insecticides, fungicides, herbicides, rodenticides, molluscicides, nematicides plant growth regulators, and others “or restricted after the 1960s in most of the technologically advanced countries.”(Aktar). Also, pesticide used to agricultural crops. “for example the effect of killing caterpillars feeding on crop brings the primary benefit of higher yields and better quality of cabbage.”(Aktar). There are several factors to improve and increase agricultural production to protect public health by produce fresh fruit and vegetables that reduces the risk of cancer and other diseases (Aktar). A pesticide is one of these factors that have been used to save crops from diseases and pests. “drew attention to the spectacular increases in crop yields in the United States in the twentieth century.”(Aktar). Moreover, in the environment most pesticides undergo photochemical trans formation to produce metabolites which are relatively nontoxic to both human beings and the environment (kole et., 1999)(Aktar). On the other hand, pesticide has direct risk on humans’ health and environment (Aktar). “Chemicals that have the power to kill every insect, the “good” and the “bad”(Carson). Therefore, to use of pesticide must be deadly only that target pest, but it is not everything (Aktar). In addition, the group of production works exposure to high risk of pesticide that by work will these chemicals. Also, each air, ocean who lives in exposure. To risk of pesticide.(Aktar). Moreover, cases of death and chronic disease everywhere in world that by rampant use of these chemicals, “if little good a lot more will be better”(Aktar). Also, legumes are important sores which include protein in vegetarian and fixing biological nitrogen (salunka). However, they exposure to pesticides that important factor to keep production legumes, but also to continue use it results environment and humams health problems (Salunke).

Toxic that is released by chemical synthetic one of Carson’s main claims. “Radiation is no longer merely the background the unnatural creation of man’s tampering with atom” (Carson). There are many nature elements are found. Uranium one naturally radioactive elements exists at low levels all rocks, water, and soil (‘Radiation Protection”). Also, it is found some substance, such as minerals and phosphate rock deposits,(“Radiation protection”). Uranium distributed throughout the environment naturally by wind and rain after due accumulation in soil and water (“Radiation protection”). However, by biological processes as mining and refining, also causes accumulate uranium as a produce wastes by mill tailings and back in to environment as small among of nature uranium in the which is modern (“Radiation protection”). But the use of uranium by modern technology in several area, such as manufacture of nuclear fuel, protect tanks bombs by army, to fuel commercial nuclear, power plants, and in ceramics and glass (“Radiation protection”). Thus, people are exposed to uranium by inhalation of dust in air or ingesting water due to environment uranium for reactor fuel which causes many kind of diseases to human as cancer or causes chemical toxicity (“Radiation protection”). When Carson said “I contend, furthermore, that we have allowed these chemicals to be used with little or no advance investigation of their effect on soil, water, wildlife, and man himself” (Carson). Therefore, evidence prove that the chemical accumulations causing pollution of environment profoundly affect before and after the births, so the prevention of these chemical toxins is importa(Joana). “thus, prevention of developmental exposures to environmental chemicals would benefit greatly from the active participation of reproductive health professionals in clinical and policy arenas.”(Joana).

Water pollution one of examples that is caused by chemicals synthetic which Carson is pointed to. Using ecological by pesticides widely which chemical put them in the water net to get rid of germs and water purification; therefor, this position causes water pollution (Joana). Moreover, chemical synthetic, such as potential toxicity of metals contaminated that discharge to sea water causes water pollution that contamination calls poisoning plants and animals that live in the water for example the low fish rate that live in water by these poison (Adedeje). In addition, uranium that man used also causes water pollution. On other hand, in the lest years biological evolution stand work to observe to EIA by determine pollution metals that causes poison in water organisms as fish (Adedeje). Also, now “decontamination and disinfection of water by means of direct or integrated electrochemical processes”(Ignasi). By development electric marital with low cost and new energy sores start to use electrochemical technologies to save water from pollution without water drinking that must be poison especially germs who rises to heat ( Ignasi). Moreover, the uranium that cause water pollution also causes risk for human and clean up pollution (Ignasi). Thus, to protect water drinking that must be include 30 ug/1 as maxes of uranium naturally (“Radiation protection”). Therefore, the new technique (EIA) works to save water without pollution.

In sum, environment pollution is caused by to way nature chemicals as uranium radiation and chemical synthetic that man causes. Now technological development includes many kind of chemical synthetic that use in different manufacture. On the other hand, these chemicals cause a lot of poising to the environment and then lead to risk to human life. Therefore, Carson’s claims that pointed to these risk and request to control these toxic or stop it because they have heart our environment and organisms health.
