Introduce the product, brand, and corporate identity (If available). Write your thesis statement. Note: The thesis statement should summarize the persuasive appeals/ audience/ and message of the advertisement in only one or two sentence.
Discuss the design of the ad. Consider the images, the text, the use of color, the people/ or other characters. which image/word/ phrase is predominant? why?
What text is on the page? is it a lot or little? what is the style of the language ( slang, formal, conversational)?
Describe the people in the ad. how many people used? what are they doing? Are they active or ? passive? what are their expressions? what is the effect of presenting the people this way?.
Discuss the persuasive appeals and advertising techniques used in the ad. does it use logos/ ethos/ pathos or a combination of two or three? how do you know? what other advertising techniques ( snob appeal, bandwagon, magic ingredients) are present?
examine the target audience for the ad. Who do you think is the target audience? why? consider the medium in which you found the ad ( what type of magazine/ newspaper is it?)
Restate the thesis in new , fresh language. then tell the overall message of the ad. tell whether or not you think the ad effective and why.
