Discussion #1A heroic leader will function well in an IT business organization. A heroic leader is charismatic, goal-scoring, who doesn't mind carrying the team on his back.

Discussion #2 Pro's for the following response;

Hardware may have been a traditional driver of the acquisition process in the IT industry, but developments in business practices and innovation have led software to become the motivating force for buying decisions. As hardware vendors have increasingly lost their monopoly on endpoints and more offerings have moved to a virtualized environment or the cloud, decisions about software are the new catalyst for business.

Cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure have increased offerings to the point where you can them host your entire Infrastructure, a Platform, or just Software as a Service in their remote environment. Moreover, businesses are feeling increased pressure to keep up with the latest versions of software to maintain their competitive advantage, updating their software much more often than their hardware. Cloud offerings and virtualization platforms cater to this desire, and many industries are moving away from traditional thick clients to thin or even zero clients. These trends are likely to continue, and will only further emphasis on software.

Respond to the following;

I would have to agree with Young Shon on this one. When a business decides to move to the cloud, they are not making this decision based on software capabilities. That is merely an added benefit. When a company shops around for capabilities, they are looking for speed. After all, time is money.

The word speed is mostly associated with hardware. I have never heard anyone tell me their software increases their upload or download speed.

If I can run the same software faster, with fewer lags, then I am going with that hardware. For many software is too complex for them to understand the differences in the numerous products available. Businesses just want to get the job done with as little overhead cost as possible, so that they focus on profits.

What drives them to the cloud is the cost savings of not having to retire and replace outdated hardware, such as servers. When a business purchases thin clients, its because they possess only the hardware they need. The initial upfront cost for a server blade with installation is around $40,000.

This is just for the one server blade. Storage devices such as tape drives, tapes, storage for the tapes, racks, environmental controls, security controls, gateways, and optic fiber to move the data quickly, and efficiently are additional costs. This hardware is the driving force behind every business. The driving force in IT and innovation is making this hardware smaller, faster, durable, and more efficient.
