In the third week Dr. Harel introduced to our class Mr. Dhar Baratulathe manufacturing director for medical crop. Dhar Baratula gets his bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from University of Toledo then after 10 years of working he continued his education and get MPA from SNHU. First he talked in brief about his previous career. He had a very fantastic experience with manufacturing and quality control. In 1995 he was working in Bedford Plant in the production, after that he took a good position as a production manager for a short time from (1995-2002) but he said it was a very hard experience for him with this position. After 2002 he went to work in Citra Laboratory (INC) as a production manager.
Then he talked about how important the education is. He said to know the tools you should be participated in; even if you are a manager you should know the tools to be able to hire the people who will do the work.
He starts to show us his presentation's slides by defining the cycle time: The periodrequired to complete one cycle of an operation; or to complete a function, job, or task from start to finish and how to make this time less. Next he talked about DMAIC: DMAIC is an acronym used to describe the phases of a Six Sigma project for an existing process. It stands for Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control. This is a methodology you should use to ensure your projects identify root causes of defects, test possible solutions, and implement control measures that process owners can use to quickly identify abnormalities. After that he starts explaining KANBAN'S in controlling inventory (KANBAN'S is not an inventory control system. Rather, it is a scheduling system that tells you what to produce, when to produce it, and how much to produce), and how Japanese use it to minimize inventory.

Mr. Dhar Baratula gave his personal advice for the people who interested in production. He said in production you should rely in many people, be patient and serious. He mentioned that his day start at 7:00 am sharply with a meeting. In the meeting he goes over questions from employees, they are sharing the opportunities to ask questions, what is more important to do first? Also the employee should get chance to learn. Dr Harel asked in case of one of the employees in the production get sick? The answer is in production we have cross training but we should test the talenting first. Some may they are good in part and not in other.
Finally, I had very good chance listening to Mr. Dhar Baratula and learning from him the real life operation.
