Narrative Description for Head Start
Redeemer Child Care Center

I observed a class in Redeemer Child Care Center last April 5, 2010. The students, who I observed, are 3 yrs. of age. They are 12 children in the classroom. The classroom is very child-friendly. It is full of colorful things, and learning materials such as books. It is furnished with child-sized furniture.
Every month there are designated topics to be discussed. This month of April, spring starts. Three-year old program includes designated topics. For Reading readiness, alphabets A-Z are reviewed; for Math, numbers 0-20 is discussed ; and for social skills and science, the five senses, signs of spring, plants, and earth day are describeed; and lastly for Bible, Easter and Jesus Dying on the Cross are describeed.
At 9:30 in the morning, alphabets A-Z are reviewed for their Reading class. The teacher let the children hear an alphabet song. The students attentively listened to their teacher. They did what their teacher said. They sang with the song as they listened to it. They were really enjoying the song. After that, the teacher showed alphabet cards. She showed one letter card to the children and asked them what the letter was (or is). The children really participated and really knew the alphabet.
After the Reading class, it was now time for Math. Children were told to recognize numbers 0-20. They have discussed these numbers in the past weeks, so this will be just a review for them. The teacher gave them an activity for this. In the activity given, children needed to place exact numbers of blocks in each box where a number was shown. The teacher
It was already lunch time. The teacher prepared the lunches of her students in the table. She asked the children to take their seats. Children ate their lunches prepared by their parents. They ate quietly. They know how to eat on their own and they finished their food.
It was an enjoying day observing the children. They made connections with the other kids. They listened to their teacher and did what they had asked to do. It was also amazing when they are learning while having a great time.
