Practical life advice from a public health legend
Today, I just watched a live stream lecture of Dr.Bill Foege at --- University. I was interested in this lecture because I found out that Dr. Foege was an alumni night of my university, all professors at the school encouraged student to go see him, and he helped eradicate small pox. Viewing this live stream lecture, I thought the lecture was going to be on how he eradicated small pox, but it was on practical life advice; like in the title of the lecture. I didn’t know the lecture was going to be on Practical life advice, but I did enjoy the lecture. From the beginning to the end of the lecture Dr. Foege told life lesson jokes.
He also, told story of what he had learned from his life lesson, and also gave advice. One of his advices was for student not to make a life plan, because when you make plan in life you make your try to follow path, instead of adapting to changes that might arise. Another piece of advice he gave was to Try everything thing in life, and in school, and then choose what you’re interested in and get good at it. I found this piece of advice to be a good piece of advice, because In my college life so far, I like certain career choices, but when I got into them, I have found that I am not that good at them, so had to change career something that interested me, and that I was good at. He also, suggested that student live their lives a philosophy, which means to live your life the way you want as long as it makes you happy. Dr. Foege also, urged students to be happy for what you got, because there are people who do have as much, so you should find a way to give back to those who are less fortunate. Through his eradication of small pox, and his life work of increased effort to educate and increase immunization rates in developing countries in the 1980s, I feel that he has lived his philosophy of to be happy for what you got, and giving back.
In conclusion, the charismatic and engaging Dr. Foege lecture did last long, but it did leave a mark on my life to not plan out every detail in college, but to be flexible, and live life to the fullest, as through life lessons, you will find your place in life.
