Brief Introduction
The process involves doing background checks on citizens of Syria who fled from their country in 2011 after the Syria civil war. "The Syrian conflict began in March 2011 with a brutal military crackdown on antigovernment protestors, and (as of October 1, 2015) has displaced nearly 12 million people." Sirin & Rogers(2015). These citizens have since sought refuge in Europe where the government is initiating resettlement programs for them. Other refugees are living in camps in Turkey, Jordan and Lebanon where they are protected, given food and medicine. The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) is the first responded to refugee's crisis. It conducts a rough cut of the number of refugees to be accepted into a certain nation. In the case of Syria the UNHCR takes the refugee and refers them to the United States where another vetting process upon the refugees is conducted. The vetting process was initiated after the Paris attacks which were coordinated by terrorists. This is to ensure Syrians entering the states are not criminals or terrorists.
