For your final project, you will prepare three response essays of 2-3 pages addressing your choice of topics from the following list. You should include citations from the course texts (The Harvard Business Review and Interpersonal Conflict) to support your claims along with citations from the case studies on the Home Page, if applicable. You are encouraged to use additional texts in your responses, as well. Include personal exs to support your ideas.
Discuss the relationship between communication and destructive and constructive conflict. Specifically, address the role communication plays in each type of conflict.
Using any one of the course case studies (Harvard Business Review or others) for which you have not already discussed the TRIP goals, examine topic, relational, identity, and process goals. Specifically, discuss how these goals change and overlap in the conflict presented in the case study.
Analyze the nature of power in conflict. Specifically, discuss how perceptions of power affect communication in conflict.
Examine conflict styles and tactics. Specifically, analyze how complimentary and symmetrical behavior patterns affect the conflict interaction.
Discuss systems theory as it relates to conflict. Specifically, address how full assessment of a conflict can aid in conflict management.
Consider moderating behaviors in conflict. Specifically, analyze how changing your own communication and/or perceptions relates to taking responsibility for the direction of the conflict and relationship.
Examine negotiation in conflict. Specifically, discuss how the language of competition and collaboration contribute to successful negotiation.
Consider third party intervention in conflict. Specifically, examine how mediation relates to the collaborative approach to conflict."
