Applying the Sociological Imagination
Using Goggle as a search engine search for the National Alliance to End Homelessness.
Click on the tab titled 'About Homelessness'
Read the 'Snapshot of Homelessness' and the FAQ's.
Go the The Wilder Foundation site.
Click on the tab titled Wilder Research; then scroll down to Publications; under Publications, click on, Homelessness in Minnesota - Findings from the 2015 Statewide Homeless Study. Look at the Initial Findings and Single-Night count.

- Looking at the data on the National Alliance site, identify six facts from these readings or sources.
- What surprised you in this data?
- On the Wilder site, what information did you find?
- What is the sociological imagination?
- How might someone with a sociological imagination and someone without a sociological imagination view a homeless person?
- How might the policies on homelessness proposed by a legislator who has a sociological imagination differ from those proposed by a legislator who does not have a sociological imagination?
- What might the advantages of developing a sociological imagination be? The disadvantages?
- What are the structures that contribute to homelessness?
- Looking at your findings what would you do to alleviate the problem of homelessness? (Give specific examples at both the macro and micro levels.) How would these be beneficial?
- Is your response indicative of someone with a sociological imagination or without? Why?
