CASE STUDY

Peter bought a four bedroom, two-storey house in Sydney, Austral i a two years ago. He wants to convert his house into a smart home office. He consulted the STOG Technology Consulting Corporation to develop an intelligent tracking system. Ideally, he would like to see his smart home office to be energy efficient, with state of the art technology, and with high quality entertainment systems for his children.

Installing sensors for lighting, security and temperature in each room is one of the essential requirements for designing and renovating the house. The other requirement is an intelligent tracking system to allow Peter and his wife to be able to monitor their children's location and energy consumption in each room. Peter would like to have the intelligent tracking system installed on the mobile for easy viewing, downloading, and printing of any related bill ing data and information anyti me and anywhere. He also wants the system to connect well to the mobil e devices of his three children, Dylan, Jordan and M ari I een, in order to notify them when lighting or computers or entertainment devices have not been turned off.

Regarding the billing system's features, Peter would like to know when and for what purpose his children use the office, and what ti me they are i n their bedrooms. He and his wife suspect that thei r chi I dren use the entertainment system in the office when they are not around, so they want to track office usage in order to monitor electricity consumption in the room. Gale, has asked you to submit an Information Systems report to him to address the fol I owi ng concerns:

1. Find three recent (from 2012 to 2015) research articles on the Internet of Things (I OT) for home and/or office installation and write a one-page of summary on what you understand from each article.

2. Suggest and discuss 2 items that you believe that can be integrated into the design of Peter's house which a billing system incorporates for tracking purposes.

3. Draw a rich picture (no hand drawn) diagram and discuss in detail the stakeholders who will be affected by the tracking system

4. Propose a software development methodology for the project based on a 6 months ti meli ne with project funding of AUD$30,000 excluding all hardware costs. Explain the activities required to develop the tracking system.

5. Show and discuss with the aid of a network typology (no hand drawn) diagram how Peter or his wife could retrieve information from the tracking system

6. Draw a swimlane diagram (no hand drawn) to show a billing system generates a monthly statement to home residents for the home electricity bill. In addition, you must create a spread sheet to show to Peter and Kelly on their mobile that 1) the daily electricity usage information on each room and 2) the breakdown of data and information of each child's ti me spent in each room to update Peter and Kelly.

7. Discuss three benefits and three value added items of the tracki ng system to IS and consumers.
