Assignment
As a professional project manager, you will be expected to keep up your training and education. Should you decide to become PMI certified, you will need to maintain a specific number of continuing education hours to keep your certification active. It's a good idea to develop the habit of continuous learning now, as you begin your journey to a professional project manager position.
Some discussion questions will have you report on a current article related to the weekly topic. To prepare you to share research each week, we will start off by investigating a number of resources that provide relevant and current project management information. A few of my favorites are listed below. Most are free. Some require you to "sign-up" to gain access to the member area articles but also have a free section. Again, as a professional, you should consider this normal.
Most of these resources will send you regular emails with links to articles for your review. Some may include links to white papers. All will have websites that you can use to search for articles or information. I suggest signing up for more than one resource. This will provide you multiple options, and opinions. Remember that although project management is a discipline with a given set of standards, there are always different perspectives from which to learn!
Below is a list of some of my favorite resources. Do not think that this list is in any way all inclusive. It's acceptable to find other resources outside of this list. Pick a number of resources to investigate and then decide which ones you will follow. I suggest at least three.
For your discussion response this week, write a post as follows:
• that identifies the resources you chose to investigate,
• which ones you chose to follow on a regular basis, and why!
• Identify the resource by name, include the URL, and provide a brief background of the type of information you found.
• Describe what lead you to choose this resource.
• Finally, pick one thing that you felt was interesting or intriguing about the home page to share with the class.
Your initial discussion post is due no later than Thursday. Choose two of your peer posts to respond. For this week only, your peer responses may include comments like "great job", or "thanks for sharing". However, beginning in Week 2, you will need to post responses a little different.
