Research Proposal
Our group topic is the effect of the Internet-based social media. Everything has two sides and social media bring us both benefits and negative effects. With the development of the technology, internet brings us a lot of convenience and the internet-based social media is developing faster while at the same time it influences our daily life negatively to some extent. For instance, people like to search on the website by using their phone instead of searching and exploring by themselves which leads to the loss of the ability of thinking. In our research paper, we want to explore how the Internet-based social media affect our daily life on earth? What are the positive and negative effects indeed? The questions above are the purpose of our researching paper. For the exploring method, we will get together and search the articles in academic journals, interviews, statistical information to illustrate our topic. All in all, we think we will deeply know the effect of the Internet-based social media and better to find out the methods to reduce the bad effect that social media brings. Hope we can remind the readers to treat the social media in a right way.

A. Thesis Statement: Internet-based social media has both advantages and disadvantages on three aspects: free online social networking, online data and information, internet platforms and online news.

A. Free online social networking
1. Advantage
i. fast and convenient for getting new information

iii. daily consuming such as online business sales
2. Disadvantage
i. potential risk for society safety
ii. threatening on relationship (free online platform for communication)
iii. Internet addiction and rejecting reality lifestyle
B. Online Data and Information
1. Advantages
i. Free online platform for knowledge sharing
ii. Easy access to online valuable data and news
iii. locating and tracking origin of resources
2. Disadvantages
i. frauds and misleadingonline information (higher possibility of being cheated)
ii. excess information and wasting of time for sorting out the important ones
C.Internet Platform
1. Advantages
i. offering equal opportunities for entrepreneur to start free online business
ii. Creating online shopping platforms for hidden new creator and designer
2. Disadvantages
i. Unable to avoidbad quality products and services from the good ones
ii. Society trusting crisis behavior
iii. No control over unhealthy information such as underage contents
iv. Online business taking over old style of business and their marketing
D. Online News
1. Advantages
i. Fast sharing online news on social media compared with news TV stations
ii. Facebook livestream helped sharing news in seconds throughout the world
(Other examples: Twitter, Snapchat, etc.)
iii. Rather than proper news TV station sharing filtered news, society share truth with the world through social media (eg: Police shooting unarmed citizens)
2. Disadvantages
i. Once news is shared, it is hard to retrieve shared news
ii. Misleading and wrong information on online news could be trusted by people who watched online news and have no consent with confirming truth.
III. Conclusion
There are many advantages and disadvantages of the fast growing technology for our online world, but advantages have outcast most disadvantages. If authority is under good use and place certain control and restriction over the disadvantages mentioned, our world could benefit more from the fast growing online world and their technology.
