Step One: Perform a web search and locate information about healthcare data interchange standards such as X2 and HL-7.

Step Two: Perform a web search and locate information about exchange if health information (such as HIE's or RHIO's).

Step Three: As you read the information that you have located on healthcare data interchange standards and exchange of health information, think about current trends and future challenges that the HIM industry faces.

Step Four: Interview a HIM professional (RHIT or RHIA) to learn about HIE's and RHIO's and what they feel is important to know and understand.

Step Five:

Scenario: You have been asked to teach a seven unit course about data interchange standards and the exchange of health information. Create a seven unit course outline for this class.

Your course outline should include a course description (150-250 words), identification if the topic(s) covered each unit, and a brief description (about 100 words) of each topic.
