Calculate the ES, EF, LS, and LF times and the slack for each activity in the figure below and identify the critical path for the project. Can the project be completed in 40 weeks? Assume that Activity A actually finished at 3 weeks, Activity B actually finished at 12 weeks, and Activity C actually finished at 13 weeks. Recalculate the expected project completion time. Which activities would you focus on in order to get the project back on schedule?

ES is the earliest start time of each activity, LS is the latest start time, LF is the latest finish, and EF is the earliest finish time of activity without delaying the total project time. Slack or float is the amount of time that each activity can be delayed without delaying the subsequent events (Chen, 2007).

The critical path for this project is A-C-F-H

From the table results, it is clear that the project will be completed within the given dateline of 40 days. The slack time or each activity must be reduced to minimize the completion time. Operation F and H have the longest time requirement and these needs a lot of concentration regarding resources. If activity A is finished at three weeks, it means the slack will increase by one week. Any slight mistake to delay operation F and H will slow the total project time. Increasing the finish time of activity B to 12 weeks will increase the project time and the slack by two weeks. Likewise, if C is completed at 13 weeks the slack time will also be increased. However, the total will not be raised beyond the expected time since only activity A and C are on the critical path.
