There are several ways an author can create a plot, and use style and tone to bring their story to life. A Clean, Well-Lighted Place, by Ernest Hemingway and House on Mango Street, by Sandra Cisneros are similar. In both stories the authors use many fictional literary devices to prepare their story. Both authors use characters that are unhappy for one reason or another; the plots are also similar because each story the characters are anticipating, waiting for something to happen or trying to get somewhere in a hurry. An analysis of both stories shows the similarities' in the authors writing.
