Your first six months on the job as the new supervisor have been so successful that your department manager has decided to expand your team by adding four new employees. Your team's responsibilities have expanded too. Although the HR department will actually conduct the hiring, the HR manager has asked you to take part in the process. Your job is to help with the tasks of reviewing applications, conducting interviews, orientation, and training the new employees. All of these new employees will be hourly and subject to the conditions of the union contract for the company.

Note: The Company is a closed union shop.

Develop a detailed new employee plan of action. In your plan, address how you will be involved in the selection, orientation, training, and integration of the new employees for your team. Include specific actions, programs, and processes that you will use while working with your HR department to hire the new employees. Also, explain your duties and responsibilities as the supervisor relative to coaching and mentoring the employees so that they quickly become part of the team. How will you assist HR by involving current employees in the process? What engagement and performance measures would you suggest? Be sure to address your limitations relative to your role as a supervisor of these union employees. Also be sure to address how you will take into account diversity of talents and backgrounds.
