Your essay should be 4-5 pages and follow MLA style. You may use To the Lighthouse, Maus (you can use either volume or combinations of the two), or the poems from after the midterm. Your paper should have a clear introduction, thesis statement, developmental paragraphs and conclusion. Your grade will be determined on basic writing components and how well you develop and support your thesis. For this essay you need to bring in at least one additional source that helps support or illustrate your thesis. Ideally this source would provide contextual analysis, rather than a source analyzing your primary source. You need to turn in any sources you use for this essay.

Option A

Analyze the progression that led to the genocide of World War II. Maus provides a timeline (of sorts) detailing the development of persecution, incorporate this along with a credible and relevant source (or two) and make a claim in relation to the topic and how this is developed in the novel(s).

Option B

Address the form and genre of Maus, how does the visual element of this book affect the story, the way a reader/viewer engages it and processes it. Does the graphic novel genre help or hurt the themes/issues and historical accounts present.

Option C

Examine the use of stream of consciousness in To the Lighthouse and how it impacts the focus/scope of the novel. You may focus on what it tells us about the characters, their motives, etc. while also addressing what it might indicate about Woolf's aims/motives for the novel.

Option D

Choices are good, right? So here's the deal, your fourth option is wide open but you must get it approved by me. You will need to email me your idea, feel free to discuss it with me first.
