Your discussion post will be set up in two sections, with a heading to identify each section: Search Method and Research Findings.

A. Describe your Search Method

Write a brief paragraph describing the online search method you used to locate the conference at which your top influencer presented, following the meta-cognition examples from Meta-cognition Examples in CRIT 502 Readings. Specify the search engine and key words you used, why you chose them, the web page they took you to, and where you went next. Be sure to include any dead ends you ran into. (If you identified the relevant conference in the Professional Organizations assignment, then this part of your search method explanation will be easy; one sentence will do it!)

Then write another paragraph describing how you located your top influencer's work outside of conference presentations, such as publications, media presentations, blogs, etc.

B. Present your Research Findings

Provide your classmates with context for your research findings by identifying the major you're pursuing and your critical inquiry question. Then address the following:

  • Identify the topics (or categories of topics) that you saw trending at conferences in your field.
  • Identify your chosen Top Influencer, provide a brief description of his or her influence, and explain how this person's work is meaningful to you.
  • Explain whether your Top Influencer's current work appears to be consistent with the trending conference topics you identified, or whether it appears to be striking out in a new or different direction.
  • Discuss your own conclusions about your top influencer's credibility as an expert in the field.
  • Speculate about the likelihood of your top influencer's having a lasting impact on the field.
  • My critical question is, modern technology is good or bad?
