You need to convince the reader (the instructor) that:

1) your proposed project is worthwhile and exciting

2) that it is feasible in the time available and

3) you are capable and qualified to conduct the project.

(3-4 pages)

While the format for the proposals may vary, the following sections are pretty standard:

SUMMARY: A single paragraph outlining the core issue of the project, your vision and approach, and the anticipated outcome(s).

INTRODUCTION: Lay out the need for the project, the context, and why your proposal is the way to go. Some references to relevant literature would be appropriate here and would help to indicate that you are approaching and framing the problem appropriately and taking advantage of existing knowledge.

METHODOLOGY/APPROACH: How you're going to tackle the problem, first in broad terms, then work your way down to specific details.
WORK PLAN: Break your project down into specific tasks.

What is the date for completion of each task, who is going to do it, etc. What are the deliverables, either for each task, or at the end.
